For emphasis on timing, watching, and listening responsibilities; battery parts start easy and become increasingly more difficult throughout their part of the show, concentrating on basic rudiments such as paradiddles, paradiddle-diddles, flams, and double strokes; emphaisis on phrasing and musicality; emphasis on individual performace due to layering of parts; time signature changes and simple polyrhythms, emphasizing the need for counting on the individual’s part.

Description:

Great for the beginning group that still wants to compete. Based on the the Big Bang Theory, the show starts with ambient pit music that builds to an explosion. Once the battery enters, the universe makes its way through constellations such as Orion, Taurus, Scorpio, Ursa Major, and Ursa Minor, with the Earth finally being formed. The Earth is left alone as chimes signals the day’s end.

It is a simple piece designed to help the beginning group work on musicality and timing while still putting on a visually entertaining show.

Originally commissioned by the Orestimba High School drumline of 2008/09 in Newman, CA under the direction of Rachael Singleton.

Designed to make the smaller battery appear a bit larger by making good use of the floor space. The beginning requires no drums, as the battery doesn’t play for the first part. They move individually and in clusters, meant to represent particles in space; they’re free to do movement work, a la colorguard, if so desired. Constellation formations are utlized in the drill, so there is a bit of complexity involved but the structure of each set is designed for beginning marchers. Many of the forms are simple enough for beginners to dress.
